Laser Periodontal Therapy - No surgery, no stitches!
Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease or pyorrhea, is an infectious and inflammatory condition of the gum tissues. It affects over 60% of the adult population at some time in their lives. The chief cause of periodontal disease is poor brushing and flossing habits that allow deposits of tartar and bacteria to accumulate on the root surfaces of the teeth. These accumulations cause the gum tissue to become swollen, red, and tender; as the disease progress, the gum tissue recedes from the contaminated root surfaces, eventually causing bone loss as well. The end result is the loss of teeth, but gum disease also has damaging effects elsewhere in the body, including links to coronary artery disease, stroke, poor diabetes control, and low birth weights of infants born to mothers with active periodontal disease as well as premature delivery.
Laser Periodontal Therapy , or LPT , is a licensed and patented laser treatment for periodontal (gum) disease. The LPT procedure uses a specially designed, FDA cleared dental laser to eliminate disease-causing bacteria not only in the gum pockets around affected teeth, but also bacteria that are deeply embedded in the surrounding tissue. These embedded bacteria are not removed with traditional treatments and are responsible for re-infection after conventional treatment. LPT is shown to be as effective, and in many cases more effective than surgical treatments, and involves no incisions, sutures, and little to no post treatment discomfort. LPT costs about the same as conventional surgical treatments but without time missed from work or spent recuperating from the discomfort of those surgical treatments! We are proud to be trained and licensed by Millenium Dental Technologies to perform LPT. While other dentists may claim to be performing laser periodontal treatment, the LPT protocol is the only laser based treatment that is researched and proven to be effective, and uses the only laser cleared by the FDA for gum disease treatment.
